Donald Anthony took over as the Executive Director of After-School All-Stars Columbus in the summer of 2008, having already established the organization’s very popular fencing program. His strengths are in understanding the “Power of Vision” and managing relationships. He has built a career based on people skills, business acumen and embracing the nuances that make organizations effective. Under his visionary leadership, ASAS Columbus hopes to soon expand to three middle schools and continue to develop a meaningful and thriving after-school program.
Donald earned a Civil Engineering degree at Princeton University and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He worked in the IT field for several years at IBM, and then took an entrepreneurial path, focusing on consulting and promotion. His promotional work includes world class sporting events, national business conferences, economic development summits, and concerts. Donald is a member of the Fisher School of Business MBA Mentoring Program and the National Black MBA Association, as well as a founding member of the Peter Westbrook Foundation.
Along with his many successful entrepreneurial endeavors, another passion in Donald’s life is fencing. He was 7 years old when he began fencing at Karamu House in Cleveland, Ohio. He went on to fence for Princeton University, where he was an Eastern Collegiate Champion and an NCAA Finalist, coached by the legendary Stan Sieja. From 1982 to 1996, Donald was a member of the US Olympic Squad, a member of two World Championship Teams, and an Individual National Finalist many times.
He went on to serve as Secretary of the United States Fencing Association and Co-Chair of the Arnold Fencing Classic, a showcase event which features World Class and Olympic athletes, in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Sports Festival. He still competes in age group competitions and won the National Veterans Championship in 2006.
Donald lives in Columbus, Ohio, with his wife Karen.
